Airway Science for Kids Executive Director is responsible for overall management of Airway Science for Kids, a not-for-profit youth education organization located in Portland, Oregon, with educational sites at Portland Community College Cascade Campus, Hillsboro Airport, Person Airport, and Aurora Airport. Duties include administration and finance (including fundraising), events and programs, marketing and public relations, staff management, and board relations. Airway Science for Kids culture is inclusive. The Executive Director works collaboratively with the board and a small staff to achieve organizational goals.

The Executive Director reports to and serves at the pleasure of an active Governing Board of Directors, and on occasion consults with an Advisory Board made up of distinguished aviators, aviation mechanics, aviation engineers, FAA staff, Oregon Department of Aviation staff, Port of Portland staff, and other aviation and education-related leaders from across the United States.

  • Passion for aviation and for Airway Science for Kids stated mission
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and to prioritize appropriately
  • Demonstrated experience directing and supervising staff and volunteers
  • Entrepreneurial orientation
  • Demonstrated experience with budgeting and fundraising
  • Demonstrated ability to network and collaborate with the public, aviation enthusiasts, educators, foundations, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across cultural lines
  • Demonstrated ability to work with middle school and high school youth
  • Bilingual in Spanish desirable
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Flight Simulator, Excel, and Word
  • A strong desire to work with middle school through high school youth
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher

Compensation:
Salary: to be determined.  Airway Science for Kids has functioned for 15 years with a minimally funded Executive Director and largely volunteer board management.  The Executive Director will be a critical part of the board’s effort to fundraise and turn this position into one with a future $40,000 – $55,000 level of compensation.
